The give comes from 2 cm of gel-infused slow-recovery foam at the surface, over 3.5 cm of high-density foam. Slow-recovery foam takes the shape of whatever presses into it and holds it for a moment; the gel through it draws heat away instead of letting the layer warm up the way plain memory foam does.
