Bed Frames By Type

Bed frame type describes how a frame is built and what it does beyond holding a mattress. A platform bed carries the mattress on a slatted base. A storage bed adds usable space underneath, either through a gas lift base that hinges upward or through drawers set into the side rails. Upholstered and velvet frames are padded and fabric-wrapped; wooden and metal frames leave the structure exposed. Bunk, trundle and day beds change the sleeping configuration rather than the base itself. Type is independent of size, so the same construction is generally offered across the New Zealand standard sizes from Single to Super King.
