About this mattress

Measuring 183cm x 203cm, the LivingTopia FirmNest Prime Super King Mattress matches a New Zealand standard super king base. On top: 3.5cm of wave foam, 1cm of gel memory foam and 1cm of high-density foam beneath a euro top that carries padding right out to the border. Underneath: 24cm of pocket springs banded into seven zones, wound from 1.8mm and 1.9mm wire. Together they read Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. The soft knitted fabric cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams inside are CertiPUR-US® certified. At 30cm thick with a euro top padded flush to the edge, it weighs 43.2kg. Roll-packing puts it into a 32cm x 32cm x 193cm carton, which turns 183cm of width into something two people can carry between them, and after unrolling it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Who this mattress suits

  • Bedrooms with the floor space to take 183 cm of width and still open a wardrobe door, on a 30 cm build.
  • Families where children end up in the bed and 183 cm has to stretch to three, on a Firm surface.
  • Sleepers who want 2 out of 10 across the largest footprint in this range.

Why choose the FirmNest Prime

The spring unit is the part that decides how this mattress holds you: a zoned 24 cm spring unit — seven bands, 1.8 mm and 1.9 mm wire. Across 183 cm the springs are spread over the widest span in the range, and the springs in the middle of the 30 cm build are the same as those at the sides.

Above the springs: a flush euro top over three foam layers — 3.5 cm wave, 1 cm gel memory, 1 cm high-density — with the gel spreading pressure where you press into it. Over 183 cm the comfort build is continuous, so a super king does not develop a softer strip down the middle at 2 out of 10.

Compared with the rest of FirmNest — Classic 5, Plus 4, Pro 3 and Prime 2 out of 10, 10 being softest — this is the firmest FirmNest. A Prime super king is the firmest thing in FirmNest at this size. Over the Pro super king it adds four zones, 4 cm of spring height and a euro top padded flush to the edge; the Classic super king at 5 out of 10 sits at the opposite end. A 183 cm super king is a long-term purchase, so place the 2 out of 10 against the other three tiers before ordering.

Movement carries less than it does on an open-coil bed, since the springs are individually pocketed. Super king sheets are less common on the shelf, so order the deep-wall depth to suit 30 cm before delivery day, and rotate head to foot every few months.

Before it arrives, check your sheets. A 30 cm sidewall will pop an ordinary super king sheet off the corners, so order deep-wall. It is roll-packed into a 32 cm x 32 cm x 193 cm carton, which is how 183 cm of mattress gets into the room at all in most houses, and once you unroll it on the base it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the FirmNest Prime Super King?

Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. On a super king the rating is constant across the width, but your experience of it will not be.

How does the FirmNest Prime compare with the Pro?

The Prime is 2 out of 10, the firmest of the four, on a scale where 10 is softest. The Pro below it is 3 out of 10, 26 cm rather than 30 cm, with three zones instead of seven, a 20 cm spring unit instead of 24 cm, and a tight top, where the Prime finishes with a euro top. Further down, the Plus is 4 and the Classic 5. A super king is the most expensive step to get wrong, so compare the numbers before ordering.

What does the gel memory foam layer do?

It is a 1 cm layer under the euro top. It softens the first few centimetres and spreads pressure where you press into it, which takes some of the hardness off a 2 out of 10 surface. It is a comfort layer and nothing more. On a super king it stays continuous beneath the euro top.

What certification does this mattress have?

The cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

Buy deep-wall super king fitted sheets; at 30 cm a standard set will not stay on. Super king sheets are the hardest size to find on a shelf, so order them ahead and check the 30 cm depth.

Will movement carry across a bed this wide?

Less than on an open-coil mattress, and less than on a narrower size, because 183 cm puts more distance between two sleepers and the springs are pocketed individually. It is a reduction rather than an absence.
