About this mattress

At 107cm x 203cm, the LivingTopia FirmNest Prime King Single Mattress is a New Zealand standard king single. The comfort build is 1cm of high-density foam, 1cm of gel memory foam and 3.5cm of wave foam under a flush-padded euro top, the wave cut giving at the surface without sink; below it, the support is a seven-zone arrangement of 24cm pocket springs, in 1.8mm and 1.9mm wire, giving a feel of Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. On the outside is soft knitted fabric holding OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, and the foam layers are CertiPUR-US® certified. It stands 30cm tall, is finished as a euro top padded flush to the edge, and weighs 25.7kg. Because it is roll-packed it travels in a 32cm x 32cm x 117cm carton, which matters when a 203cm length has to get round the turn of a staircase, and it is typically at full height within 72 hours after opening.

Who this mattress suits

  • A single sleeper who wants more than 92 cm of width without moving up to a 137 cm double, at 2 out of 10.
  • Sleepouts and granny flats where a queen will not fit but a single feels mean, and a Firm surface is what is wanted.
  • Anyone over about 190 cm tall who has been on a 188 cm base and running out of room on a 30 cm build.

Why choose the FirmNest Prime

Springs first — a 24 cm pocket spring unit divided into seven zones, using 1.8 mm and 1.9 mm wire. A king single is 107 cm wide and 203 cm long, so the springs have to hold a taller frame without letting the hips drop below the shoulders at 2 out of 10.

On top you get a euro top padded flush to the edge, over 3.5 cm of wave foam, 1 cm of gel memory foam and 1 cm of high-density foam; the gel layer softens the first few centimetres. A king single is narrow and long, so the comfort layers matter most down the middle line of the 30 cm build.

The four FirmNest tiers get firmer as they go up — Classic 5 out of 10, Plus 4, Pro 3 and Prime 2, where 10 is softest. Nothing in the range is firmer than a Prime king single. Against the Pro it gains four more zones, 4 cm more spring height and a euro top; step back two tiers to the Plus for a softer 4 out of 10. A king single is usually one person's decision too, and at 2 out of 10 the 203 cm length is the other half of the choice.

Individually pocketed springs mean a movement on one side reaches the other side reduced rather than in full. Buy deep-wall king single sheets — a 203 cm length and a 30 cm depth are both easy to get wrong — and rotate the mattress head to foot every few months.

One bedding note and one delivery note. 30 cm of depth puts this into deep-wall king single sheet territory. It travels in a 32 cm x 32 cm x 117 cm carton, which solves the awkward part of getting a 203 cm length into an upstairs bedroom, and after unrolling it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the FirmNest Prime King Single?

Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. Body weight changes how a king single reads, so treat the number as a comparison point rather than a promise.

How does the FirmNest Prime compare with the Pro?

The Prime is 2 out of 10, the firmest of the four, on a scale where 10 is softest. The Pro below it is 3 out of 10, 26 cm rather than 30 cm, with three zones instead of seven, a 20 cm spring unit instead of 24 cm, and a tight top, where the Prime finishes with a euro top. Further down, the Plus is 4 and the Classic 5. For a king single the firmness step is usually the deciding factor rather than the size.

What does the gel memory foam layer do?

It is a 1 cm layer under the euro top. It softens the first few centimetres and spreads pressure where you press into it, which takes some of the hardness off a 2 out of 10 surface. It is a comfort layer and nothing more. On a king single it runs the length of the bed beneath the euro top.

What certification does this mattress have?

The cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

Deep-wall king single fitted sheets are the ones to buy — 30 cm is beyond what a standard sheet is cut for. King single sheets are sold in most bedding aisles, but check both the 203 cm length and the 30 cm depth.

Is a king single really longer than a single?

Yes. A king single is 203 cm long against 188 cm for a single, 15 cm more, and 107 cm wide against 92 cm. That extra length is the main reason people choose it, usually for a tall teenager or adult.
