About this mattress

Built to the New Zealand king standard at 167cm x 203cm, this is the LivingTopia FirmNest Prime King Mattress. The comfort stack is a euro top padded flush to the edge, over 3.5cm of wave foam, 1cm of gel memory foam and 1cm of high-density foam, and it sits on a 24cm pocket spring unit divided into seven zones, using 1.8mm and 1.9mm wire; that is where the Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest rating comes from. It is covered in soft knitted fabric; the cover holds OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams hold CertiPUR-US®. Height is 30cm, the top is a euro top padded flush to the edge, and the weight is 40.4kg. Delivery is roll-packed, so it ships in a 32cm x 32cm x 177cm carton, which turns 167cm of mattress into a carton rather than a slab, and after unrolling it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Who this mattress suits

  • A couple who share the bed with a child or a dog on some nights, on a 30 cm build.
  • Sleepers who move about and want the extra width to take it, on a Firm surface.
  • Anyone upgrading from a queen who has found 153 cm too narrow for two and wants the seven-zone spring unit as well as the width.

Why choose the FirmNest Prime

Underneath the comfort layers sits a seven-zone arrangement of 24 cm pocket springs, in 1.8 mm and 1.9 mm wire. At 167 cm there is more unit to work with, so one person turning over compresses a section of springs rather than the full width of the 30 cm build.

What you actually touch is 1 cm of high-density foam, 1 cm of gel memory foam and 3.5 cm of wave foam under a flush-padded euro top, the wave cut giving at the surface without sink. A king gives each sleeper more room, so the comfort layers are less likely to be loaded in the same spot twice at 2 out of 10.

It helps to know the ladder before choosing: 5 for Classic, 4 for Plus, 3 for Pro and 2 for Prime, measured with 10 as softest. The Prime king is the firmest king here, one point below the Pro king on a scale where 10 is softest, with seven zones rather than three and a euro top. Softer alternatives run Pro, then Plus, then Classic. At 167 cm wide there is room for two different sleeping styles but only one firmness, and here that is 2 out of 10.

Because each spring is pocketed separately, less movement travels across the surface. King fitted sheets in the deep-wall depth will clear the 30 cm sidewall on a 167 cm base, and a head-to-foot rotation every few months evens out the wear.

Two things to have ready. Deep-wall king fitted sheets are the ones to buy — 30 cm is beyond what a standard sheet is cut for. It comes roll-packed in a 32 cm x 32 cm x 177 cm carton, which is the practical answer to moving a king past a tight landing. Give it time to open out, as it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the FirmNest Prime King?

Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. Across a king the rating is the same everywhere; how it feels still depends on the sleeper.

How does the FirmNest Prime compare with the Pro?

The Prime is 2 out of 10, the firmest of the four, on a scale where 10 is softest. The Pro below it is 3 out of 10, 26 cm rather than 30 cm, with three zones instead of seven, a 20 cm spring unit instead of 24 cm, and a tight top, where the Prime finishes with a euro top. Further down, the Plus is 4 and the Classic 5. At king size the price step between tiers is larger, so it is worth being sure of the number.

What does the gel memory foam layer do?

It is a 1 cm layer under the euro top. It softens the first few centimetres and spreads pressure where you press into it, which takes some of the hardness off a 2 out of 10 surface. It is a comfort layer and nothing more. A king gets the same layer under the euro top across 167 cm.

What certification does this mattress have?

The cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

30 cm of depth puts this into deep-wall king sheet territory. King sheets are common enough, but confirm the wall depth covers 30 cm before you buy a set.

Will I feel my partner getting up?

Less than you would on a linked-coil mattress. Individually pocketed springs keep more of the movement where it happens, and 167 cm of width means the two of you are further apart than on a queen.
