About this mattress

Built to the New Zealand single standard at 92cm x 188cm, this is the LivingTopia FirmNest Plus Single Mattress. Support comes from a 20cm pocket spring unit in 1.8mm wire, ringed by three rows of thicker 1.9mm wire, working under a single comfort layer of 3cm high-density foam, under a knit chosen because it does not bobble as quickly as a plain one, for a surface that reads Medium Firm, 4 out of 10 where 10 is softest. Cover fabric is anti-pill knitted fabric, certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, over CertiPUR-US® certified foams. Height is 23cm, the top is a tight top, and the weight is 17.5kg. It ships rolled and boxed in a 28cm x 28cm x 102cm carton, which one person can usually manage through a doorway and up a flight of stairs, and given time to open out it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Who this mattress suits

  • Bunks, trundles and low bases, where the 23 cm height needs checking against the guard rail first.
  • Adults sleeping alone who want a surface at 4 out of 10 and 188 cm of length.
  • A first grown-up mattress for a child out of a cot bed, where the reinforced perimeter matters more than plushness.

Why choose the FirmNest Plus

Underneath the comfort layers sits 20 cm pocket springs on 1.8 mm wire, with three extra rows of 1.9 mm wire around the perimeter. On a 92 cm single there is only ever one person's weight on the unit, so the springs work in a narrow band and the 23 cm build stays even from one side to the other.

The comfort build, reading down from the cover: 3 cm of dense foam and nothing else between you and the springs, behind a knitted cover treated to resist pilling. On a single those layers only ever carry one person, so they wear at one rate across the 23 cm build.

Firmness climbs through the range: Classic 5 out of 10, then Plus 4, Pro 3 and Prime 2, with 10 the softest end. A Plus single is one point firmer than a Classic single and 4 cm taller, with a reinforced perimeter the Classic does not have; the Pro above it brings three-zone springs and gel memory foam. On a 92 cm single that choice is yours alone, so pick the number you actually want rather than a compromise; this one is 4 out of 10.

Because each spring is pocketed separately, less movement travels across the surface. For bedding, the 23 cm height calls for standard New Zealand single fitted sheets, and the comfort layers are on one side only, so rotate the mattress head to foot every few months rather than flipping it.

Bedding depth matters at this height. Standard New Zealand single fitted sheets fit a 23 cm wall without stretching. On delivery day expect a 28 cm x 28 cm x 102 cm carton rather than a full-size mattress, which keeps the delivery to something that fits in a car boot and up a narrow stair, and expect it to be typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the FirmNest Plus Single?

Medium Firm, 4 out of 10 where 10 is softest. Firmness is felt rather than measured, so on a single use the number to compare our mattresses with each other.

How does the FirmNest Plus compare with the Classic and the Pro?

The Plus is 4 out of 10. The Classic below it is 5 out of 10 and so slightly softer, 19 cm rather than 23 cm tall, and has no reinforced perimeter. The Pro above it is 3 out of 10, 26 cm tall, and adds three-zone springs and a 1 cm gel memory foam layer. All numbers are on a scale where 10 is softest. On a single you are only choosing for yourself, which makes the step easier to judge.

What does the reinforced edge do?

Three extra rows of thicker 1.9 mm wire run right around the perimeter of the 20 cm spring unit. The edge keeps more of its shape when you sit on it to put shoes on, and more of the width stays usable for sleeping. On a 92 cm single that keeps more of a narrow surface usable.

What certification does this mattress have?

The cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

23 cm of sidewall means ordinary single fitted sheets will do, and deep-wall ones will bag. Single fitted sheets are easy to find in New Zealand; check the packet quotes a wall depth of at least 23 cm.

Can this mattress be flipped?

No — the comfort layers are on one side only, so it is a single-sided mattress. Rotate it head to foot every few months instead, which spreads the wear along the 188 cm length.
