About this mattress

The Bamboo Pro 5 Zone Pocket Spring Mattress in Queen is a 153cm x 203cm queen pocket spring mattress built to standard New Zealand dimensions. Support comes from a 24cm independent pocket spring unit divided into five zones, under 3cm of high-density foam and a 1cm comfort layer that together set the feel at Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. The cover is a hypoallergenic bamboo fabric, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, and the foams inside are CertiPUR-US® certified. The mattress is 28cm thick with a euro top padded flush to the edge, and weighs 39kg. It ships roll-packed in a 32cm x 32cm x 163cm box, so a 28cm mattress reaches an upstairs bedroom without being folded, and it is typically at full height within 72 hours of unrolling.

Who this mattress suits

  • A main bedroom being done properly, in the size most New Zealand rooms are built around.
  • Couples where one of you wants firm — firm underneath, but with 4 cm of foam over the springs rather than a hard board.
  • A bed meant to last ten years, where the spring core is what decides whether it is still flat in year five.

Why choose the Bamboo Pro

The 28 centimetres are not padding. Twenty-four of them are the spring unit and four are the comfort layers — 3 cm of high-density foam over a 1 cm comfort foam. The depth on the label is structure, and you can check it against the specifications rather than take it on trust.

Those 24 cm of independent pocket springs are divided into five zones, so support is tuned along the length of the bed instead of spread evenly, and every spring sits in its own fabric pocket. On a 153 cm bed that is what keeps one person turning over from lifting the surface under the other. The bamboo cover is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified.

Bamboo fibre is the reason to choose this over the knitted-cover version: it moves moisture off the surface instead of holding it against you, which is what two people notice on a warm night, and it stays smooth on a flat quilted surface.

Against the Bamboo Plus, this is the deeper and firmer build — 28 cm rather than 23 cm, five zones rather than three, and 2 out of 10 rather than 3.

Firmness is felt, not measured. Body shape, weight and sleeping position all change how the same surface reads, so use this level to compare our mattresses with each other rather than as a promise of how it will feel to you.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the Bamboo Pro Queen?

It is a firm mattress, 2 out of 10 on our scale where 10 is softest — the firmest build in the Bamboo range. The 4 cm of foam over the springs keeps it from feeling like a board, but the 24 cm spring unit is what sets the feel.

Will I feel my partner moving?

Much less than on a continuous spring mattress. Every spring is encased on its own, so it compresses under the weight directly above it instead of dragging the springs beside it down too.

What does the euro top do?

It means the padding is built out flush to the edge of the mattress rather than stopping short of it, so the surface stays usable right to the sides and the edge holds its shape when you sit on it to put your shoes on.

What certification does this mattress have?

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 on the bamboo cover and CertiPUR-US® on the foams — the surface against your skin and the layers under your body are both covered. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What size sheets do I need?

Deep-wall queen fitted sheets. The mattress is 153 cm x 203 cm and 28 cm deep, above the depth ordinary fitted sheets are cut for.

Does it arrive rolled up in a box?

Yes. It ships vacuum-sealed and roll-packed in a 32 cm x 32 cm x 163 cm box, which is how a 28 cm queen reaches an upstairs bedroom without being folded. Unroll it on the base and it is typically at full height within 72 hours.
