Luna Oval Metal Framed Wall Mirror - Black

Brushed aluminium on the Luna oval has a fine directional grain that scatters light, so the black reads softer and less reflective than a painted gloss frame. Alongside a gloss-painted piece the two blacks will not match exactly. Wipe the frame along the grain rather than across it.

The oval Luna uses an aluminium alloy frame at 3.0 kg, while the arched version uses iron at 4.2 kg, for a similar size. Aluminium is the lighter metal. That difference matters mainly when you are holding the mirror against the wall deciding where it goes.

An oval tapers at the sides, so the Luna reads narrower than an 84 × 50 cm rectangle would on the same panel and leaves visual space around it. That is why it works where a rectangular mirror looks wedged in. Tape both outlines up if you are deciding between shapes.

Set the Luna oval by the centre line of the curve rather than by an edge, because a continuous oval gives you nothing to level against. Hold it in place, mark the centre, then measure out from there. Two people make this far quicker than a tape measure alone.

A black anti-oxidation film sits behind the 3 mm glass on the Luna oval, protecting the reflective layer from moisture, which is what causes the dark spotting seen on older mirrors. Spray glass cleaner onto a cloth rather than the mirror so liquid does not reach that backing edge.

One carton of 94 × 59 × 9 cm weighing 5.0 kg holds the Luna oval, with no assembly required. It is a one-person carry and fits across most car boots. Unpack it flat and keep the protective material until the mirror is fixed in place.
