About this mattress

A New Zealand standard double at 137cm x 188cm, the LivingTopia FirmNest Prime Double Mattress is sized for a double base. Support comes from a zoned 24cm spring unit — seven bands, 1.8mm and 1.9mm wire, working under a flush euro top over three foam layers — 3.5cm wave, 1cm gel memory, 1cm high-density — with the gel spreading pressure where you press into it, for a surface that reads Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. The outer face is soft knitted fabric, tested to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, and the foams below it are CertiPUR-US® certified. Finished with a euro top padded flush to the edge, it measures 30cm thick and 30.4kg on the scales. It ships rolled and boxed in a 32cm x 32cm x 147cm carton, which lets 137cm of mattress through a standard internal door on the way in, and given time to open out it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Who this mattress suits

  • A single adult who spreads out and wants the whole 137 cm to themselves across a 30 cm build.
  • Couples who want 2 out of 10 rather than something that cradles.
  • Second bedrooms and holiday houses where two adults occasionally share 188 cm of length on a 30 cm mattress.

Why choose the FirmNest Prime

The load is carried by 24 cm of pocket springs banded into seven zones, wound from 1.8 mm and 1.9 mm wire. On a 137 cm double two people share one unit, and each pocket compresses on its own rather than the whole 30 cm build tilting toward the heavier sleeper.

The comfort build, reading down from the cover: 3.5 cm of wave foam, 1 cm of gel memory foam and 1 cm of high-density foam beneath a euro top that carries padding right out to the border. Two people on a 137 cm double load the comfort layers unevenly, which is why the foam is the same density right across a Firm surface.

Where this sits in the range: this is the firmest FirmNest, on a ladder that runs Classic 5, Plus 4, Pro 3 and Prime 2 out of 10 with 10 as softest. On a double the Prime is the firm end of the range — seven zones against the Pro's three, 24 cm of spring against 20 cm, and a euro top instead of a tight top. The Classic double at 5 out of 10 is the softest alternative. On a 137 cm double two people have to agree, and 2 out of 10 is the number they are agreeing to.

Turning over compresses the springs directly under you rather than lifting the whole surface. Use deep-wall double fitted sheets to clear the 30 cm sidewall, and rotate head to foot a few times a year so the two sleeping spots wear at a similar rate.

BeddingDeep-wall double fitted sheets

Bedding depth matters at this height. Buy deep-wall double fitted sheets; at 30 cm a standard set will not stay on. On delivery day expect a 32 cm x 32 cm x 147 cm carton rather than a full-size mattress, which is the difference between a double fitting through the hallway and not, and expect it to be typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the FirmNest Prime Double?

Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. Two people on a double will describe the same surface differently; the number is there for comparison.

How does the FirmNest Prime compare with the Pro?

The Prime is 2 out of 10, the firmest of the four, on a scale where 10 is softest. The Pro below it is 3 out of 10, 26 cm rather than 30 cm, with three zones instead of seven, a 20 cm spring unit instead of 24 cm, and a tight top rather than a euro top. Further down, the Plus is 4 and the Classic 5. On a double both sleepers get the same number, so pick the step you can both live with.

What does the gel memory foam layer do?

It is a 1 cm layer under the euro top. It softens the first few centimetres and spreads pressure where you press into it, which takes some of the hardness off a 2 out of 10 surface. It is a comfort layer and nothing more. On a double it sits under the euro top on both sides.

What certification does this mattress have?

The cover is certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

What sheets do I need for this mattress?

A 30 cm sidewall will pop an ordinary double sheet off the corners, so order deep-wall. Double sheets are widely stocked; the depth is the part people get wrong, so look for at least 30 cm.

Will I feel my partner moving?

Less than on an open-coil mattress. Each spring is pocketed on its own, so a movement compresses the springs under that person first and reaches the other side reduced. On a 137 cm double you are close together, so some movement will still carry.
