About this mattress

The LivingTopia Hybrid Prime King Single is a pocket-spring, foam and latex mattress in the New Zealand king single size, 107cm x 203cm. It is built on a 24cm pocket spring unit on 1.8mm wire with a foam surround encasing all four sides, under 3.5cm of wave foam, 1cm of gel memory foam, 1cm of natural latex and 2cm of support foam, giving a feel of Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest. A soft knitted cover certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 sits over CertiPUR-US® certified foams. Total height is 32cm with a euro top padded flush to the edge, and it weighs 27.9kg. It ships roll-packed in a 43cm x 43cm x 117cm carton, which keeps a 203cm long mattress of this depth from having to be tipped upright in a hallway, and it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Who this mattress suits

  • Taller single sleepers who want 203 cm of length and a firm surface on a deep mattress.
  • Teenagers moving up from a single who will keep the bed for years and want the support underneath.
  • Rooms where the bed is a daybed by day, so the edge is sat on and needs to hold its shape.

Why choose the Hybrid Prime

Four materials sit above the spring unit in this tier, which is what hybrid means here. The unit is 24 cm deep on 1.8 mm wire and is wrapped on all four sides by a foam surround; that surround is what keeps the edge of a 107 cm bed from giving way under a seated weight.

Working down from the cover: 3.5 cm of wave foam, 1 cm of gel memory foam, 1 cm of natural latex, then 2 cm of support foam on top of the springs. Gel memory foam softens the first few centimetres and spreads pressure where you press into it. Latex behaves the other way, pushing back rather than holding a shape.

Anyone comparing king singles across the range should note that the tallest is not the softest. This Prime is Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest, on 32 cm. The Classic is Firm at 3 out of 10 on 20 cm. The Plus is Medium Firm at 4 out of 10 on 25 cm and gives the most at the surface. Firmest, this one; softest, the Plus.

Length and depth together are what make a 32 cm king single awkward to deliver. Rolled and packed at 43 cm x 43 cm x 117 cm, it comes in as a carton instead. The knitted cover carries OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and the foams carry CertiPUR-US®; certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

Firmness is felt, not measured. Body shape, weight and sleeping position all change how the same surface reads, so use this level to compare our mattresses with each other rather than as a promise of how it will feel to you.

Size and fit

Mattress weight27.9 kg

BeddingDeep-wall king single fitted sheets

Deep-wall king single fitted sheets are required at 32 cm, and even then it is worth checking the wall measurement, because this is deeper than most deep-wall sheets are cut for. The 43 cm x 43 cm x 117 cm carton is what makes a 203 cm long mattress of this depth manageable through a doorway. Unroll it and it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

How firm is the king single?

Firm, 2 out of 10 where 10 is softest, which is the firmest reading in the Hybrid range.

Why does the mid-range Plus feel softer than this?

Because feel is set by the layers above the springs. The Plus has memory foam there and reads 4 out of 10 where 10 is softest. This Prime spends its extra height on a deeper spring unit and reads 2 out of 10; the Classic sits between them at 3.

Why is there both memory foam and latex in this mattress?

They behave in opposite ways, and that is the point of using both. Gel memory foam yields under load and carries it outwards. Latex resists and springs back, so the surface does not keep an impression once you shift position. The foam surround around the spring unit is a separate feature again, and it is what holds the edge of the bed up.

What certification does this mattress have?

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 for the knitted cover, CertiPUR-US® for the foams. Certificate numbers are available from our team on request.

Which sheets do I need?

Deep-wall king single fitted sheets. At 32 cm the mattress is deeper than many sets sold as deep-wall, so read the stated depth.

Is it long enough for a tall sleeper?

It is 203 cm long, 15 cm more than a single, so most adults have clearance at the feet. At 32 cm it also sits noticeably higher off the base.
