About this mattress

The Comfort Classic Pocket Spring Mattress in Single is a 92cm x 188cm single pocket spring mattress built to standard New Zealand dimensions. Support comes from a full independent pocket spring unit, every spring in its own fabric pocket, under a high-density foam comfort layer that sets the feel at Medium Firm, 4 out of 10 where 10 is softest. The knitted cover is dust-mite resistant, anti-bacterial and OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, and the foam inside is CertiPUR-US® certified. The mattress is 18cm thick with a tight top and weighs 15.3kg. It ships roll-packed in a 28cm x 28cm x 102cm box, light enough at 16.5kg for one person to bring in, and it is typically at full height within 72 hours of unrolling.

Who this mattress suits

  • Kids rooms. At 92 x 188 cm it leaves floor space for everything else a child's room has to hold.
  • Guest rooms and sleepouts. At 15.3 kg it goes in easily and the room is ready the same afternoon.
  • Student flats and first apartments. The most compact mattress in the range, on a low 18 cm profile.

Why choose the Comfort Classic

Underneath is a full independent pocket spring unit — every spring in its own fabric pocket, answering to you rather than to the rest of the bed. Over it, a high-density foam comfort layer brings the surface to a medium-firm 4 out of 10: enough give to take the edge off the springs, with the hips held level rather than sinking.

The knitted cover is dust-mite resistant and anti-bacterial, certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, and the foam inside carries CertiPUR-US® certification. The tight-top build finishes at 18 cm, so ordinary fitted sheets go straight on.

The bed goes in and the room still works. A desk under the window, a chest by the door, floor left over to actually play on. And on a Sunday morning when the sheets come off, it is one person, one minute, standard single bedding straight out of the cupboard.

For a thicker comfort layer or zoned spring support, step up to Comfort Plus or Comfort Pro.

BeddingStandard New Zealand single fitted sheets

92 cm x 188 cm is the standard New Zealand single mattress size, so it fits any single bed frame or base built to NZ dimensions. At 18 cm high it takes ordinary single fitted sheets, with no deep-wall bedding to hunt down. It arrives roll-packed and vacuum-sealed in one carton, narrow enough to carry up a staircase on your own, and once it is unrolled and left flat it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Features

Feature
  • Independent pocket spring support unit — every spring sits in its own fabric pocket, so one person turning over stays on their side of the bed.
  • High-density foam comfort layer — cushioning between you and the springs, so the surface gives before the spring unit does.
  • Medium Firm feel, 4 out of 10 on the Betalife softness scale — a little give at the surface, hips held level with the shoulders.
  • Tight top finished at 18cm — ordinary single fitted sheets go straight on, no deep-wall bedding to buy.
  • Breathable knitted cover, dust mite resistant and anti-bacterial — a cleaner surface to sleep on night after night.
  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified cover, CertiPUR-US® certified foam — certified on both layers you are in contact with all night.
  • 92cm x 188cm, the New Zealand single standard — fits any single bed frame or base built to NZ dimensions.
  • Roll-packed into a sealed carton, 28 x 28 x 102cm at 16.5kg — a box 28cm square goes up a staircase and through a bedroom door in one trip; unroll it on the base and it is typically at full height within 72 hours.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a single mattress in New Zealand, and does this one match?

A single mattress in New Zealand is 92cm x 188cm, and that is exactly what this one measures. It fits any single bed frame or base built to New Zealand dimensions, which covers most frames sold here. The finished height is 18cm.

Is a medium firm feel right for a child's bed?

Medium firm sits at 4 out of 10 on the Betalife softness scale, where 1 is firmest and 10 is softest. A high-density foam layer over the pocket springs takes the edge off the surface while the springs keep the hips level with the shoulders. Body weight and sleeping position change how any mattress feels.

How is it packaged, and how hard is it to get into the room?

It is roll-packed into a carton measuring 28 x 28 x 102cm at 16.5kg, the smallest and lightest in the Comfort Classic range. A box 28cm square goes up a staircase and through a standard bedroom door in one trip, and it is typically at full height within 72 hours of being unrolled.

Will ordinary single fitted sheets fit, or does it need deep-wall ones?

Ordinary single fitted sheets fit. At 18cm the mattress sits inside the depth range standard fitted sheets are cut for, so the bedding already in the cupboard goes straight on. Deep-wall sheets are only needed on mattresses considerably thicker than this.

Is the cover treated, and is that treatment certified?

The cover is a breathable knitted fabric that the specifications describe as dust mite resistant and anti-bacterial, and it is certified to OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. That is a property of the fabric rather than a health claim, and it does not replace washing bedding or using a mattress protector.

Why is the mattress 18cm rather than thicker?

18cm is the finished height of a tight-top build, which means no pillow-top or euro-top pad is stitched onto the surface. The full independent pocket spring unit and the high-density foam comfort layer are both still there. On a child's frame or a low base, the slimmer profile keeps the bed easy to climb into and easy to make.
