The Bamboo 5 Zone spends its budget on the spring unit and the cover rather than on padding. Nineteen centimetres of individually pocketed springs on 1.8 mm and 1.9 mm wire, divided into five zones, with two rows of heavier 2.2 mm running around the outside.
At 5.5 out of 10 where 10 is softest, this is a fraction softer than the Deluxe range at 5 and well short of the Memory Pro at 6. At 21 cm it is also one of the slimmer builds, which is why ordinary fitted sheets still fit it.

The cover is the other half of it: a bamboo-fibre knit that moves moisture off the surface instead of holding it against you, which is what you notice on a warm, still Auckland night. Above the springs sit 2 cm of 20D foam and a 700 gsm felt layer, which keeps the spring tops from pressing up through the padding. The single weighs 16.5 kg. It arrives rolled and compressed rather than flat, which is what lets a 21 cm mattress come into the house as a parcel one or two people can steer.
